History of Queer Craft
QUEER CRAFT started in 2015 as a small wintertime sale in our friend Marla's living room that friends Marla and Erin, and Misty organized. They invited a few other folks including Haku and Cory to sell at this sale. It was a sweet and fun and friend-filled day!
In 2016, Cory and Haku. with permission from the 2015 organizers, decided to keep the magic going and shift into a larger community format. They envisioned a larger community event that retained the same sweetness, friend gathering, and fun as the first but with more opportunity for new folks to vend and attend. They decided to prioritize a minimum of 50% BIPOC vendors and to center working class, sick & disabled, BIPOC, and trans/gnc/nb folks in the makeup of vendors. They also were very committed to keeping table spaces affordable/free to ensure poor folks, first-time vendors, and youth felt welcome and able to vend. They also decided to have a benefit bake sale to give back to our community, which is now a key feature of QC. Marla, Erin, and Misty joined as volunteers and the first large-scale QUEER CRAFT was born!
The 2017 fair continued in that legacy with Erin & Misty returning as core fair organizers and we saw the fair gain momentum and grow to a two-day event. In 2018, Cory, Haku, and Erin invited Raquel, a long time QC amazing volunteer and friend, to join as a core organizer. This group became the core group that led things for successful 2018 and 2019 fairs. Anyone who has attended knows this is more than just a holiday sale but a real celebration of our queer community's brilliance and multiplicity and we can't wait to celebrate with you this December!
Who We Are
Meet the 2023 QUEER CRAFT organizers!
Cory is a queer fat sick xicana femme writer, crafter, cocinera, and plant medicine maker. Haku is a fat sick and disabled genderqueer day dreamer. They credit their deep love of the radical healing possibilities of nature to their hapa roots, growing up on a farm, and their moms talk story truths. Jess has been with Queer Craft since it's first iteration five years ago and a core organizer of the fair the last four years.

Raquel is a queer, fat, white, Jewish femme, who works as a mental health counselor. As a volunteer in past years, she has been inspired and moved by queer community showing up to participate and support one another in their crafts. In her free time she enjoys petting sweet cats, going to shows and doodling. Raquel is still exploring different types of crafting, but especially loves to support the crafts of her community. She is so excited to participate in this year’s event as a core organizer for her second year!
